Earlier this year, New Balance debuted the “My Story Matters” project for Black History Month. To continue the celebration, this week they added another colorway to the 990v5.

Back in February of 2021, New Balance debuted the “My Story Matters” collection, a project that highlighted Black history, designed by a team of Black NB associates. The debut project highlighted the 990v5 and 574 sneakers in bold colorways inspired by the robes of gospel choirs. Now, months after the debut, New Balance has quietly released a new entry in the program, once again dressing the 990v5 in a limited-edition color scheme. The new look begins with a dual gold and black mesh base layer, split between the toe and heel of the shoe. The rest of the upper comes in jet black, applied in either suede or leather overlays. More gold accents adorn the New Balance ‘N’ branding as well as the 990 numbering.
