New Balance is dropping an upgraded version of their retro 550 this week, preparing the silhouette for the golf course by adding extra traction to the shoe’s midsole and a smooth “Pine Green” colorway for its debut.

Turning classic sneakers into golf shoes has been a major focus for footwear brands recently, with Jordan Brand and Nike leading the way. The Air Jordan 1 has been turned into a course-ready silhouette in the last two years, in both low and high-top styles, and now, New Balance is throwing their hat in the ring with the 550. Dubbed the 550 Golf SL, the model’s only change is extended spikes on the outsole for better traction in grass. The model will debut in the “Pine Green” colorway that helped relaunch the 550, dressing it in plain white leather with a healthy dose of green accents.
