WTAPS and New Balance last teamed up in May of 2020, releasing a surprise colorway of the fan-favorite 992 for the shoe’s anniversary. Now, the two are back with another exciting project, this time casting the 990v2 in shades of tonal grey.

It’s been just over one year since WTAPS and New Balance surprised the sneaker world by teaming up for an ultra-limited-edition release of the 992, in the early days of the shoe’s retro run that kicked off in 2020. The “Olive Drab” color scheme, mixed with heavy earth tones and flashes of bright accents, was an instant hit among sneakerheads, and was almost immediately entered into the endless discussion of “Sneaker of the Year”. While the WTAPS 992 still remains fairly elusive, this week the two brands announced a new project to satiate our needs for WTAPS 99xs. This time around, the two will be highlighting the 990v2, and instead of pitting the style in an eye-catching color scheme, the silhouette comes draped in a tonal grey look. From the mesh base layer to the outer suede overlays, the entire shoe features slightly differing grey tones for a solid look.
