The Asian Lunar New Year celebration began on February 1st this year, kicking off the celebration of the Year of the Tiger. And to contribute, New Balance has crafted a pack of Tiger-themed Lunar New Year sneakers, highlighted by this XC-72.

The New Balance XC-72 was originally introduced to the brand’s lineup last year, and only now appears to be finding its stride with a series of widely avialable colorways. This is typical of a New Balance rollout, particularly with a hyped-up silhouette, like the lack of supply we witnessed between the launches of the 327 and the 550 in recent years. This week, the Boston brand released their latest iteration of the new XC-72, which has joined a number of other popular NB silhouette to create a timely “Lunar New Year” collection. Each style follows a similar color blocking to that of the XC-72, which mixes an inky black lateral side with sesame-brown medial panelling. The mudguard is made up of black suede, while bright red tiger stripe panels peer out from underneath the toes and heels.
