The crew of “Godzilla Minus One” did their take on method dressing for the 96th Annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. Masaki Takahashi, Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya and Tatsuji Nojima, the visual effects team of the blockbuster film, donned Godzilla-inspired shoes on the Oscars red carpet.
Each of the four pairs of black shoes was created by Japanese designer Matsui Ryosuke and featured a short heel that resembled Godzilla’s claws.
The men’s shoes were black and featured a zipper instead of laces. Meanwhile, Kiyoko Shibuya wore a pair of Mary Jane-style patent leather shoes instead. They had a pointed toe and the same heel design.
This isn’t the first time the crew has done this. The film’s director, Yamazaki, has been wearing the style throughout the press run. He previously wore the black dress shoes at the Critics Choice Awards in Los Angeles.
The team is nominated for Best Visual Effects at the Academy Awards tonight.
These novelty shoes are certainly not the first of their kind. This month, the Alexander McQueen runway show featured heels made to resemble horse hooves. In addition, in February, the GCDS fall 2024 show in Milan featured a pair of Morso pumps with “heels shaped like a snarling jaw.”
The designer of the Godzilla claw heels makes a number of other shoes with hands-as-heels designs.
The Oscars 2024, officially known as the 96th Academy Awards, are set to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The ceremony will honor movies released in 2023. Jimmy Kimmel will host the event for the fourth time. The nominations include films like “Barbie,” “Oppenheimer,” “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Poor Things.” Notable nominees for acting categories include Lily Gladstone, Emma Stone, Paul Giamatti, Cillian Murphy and more.
