ASICS’ GEL-Lyte III is an icon around the world, though most notably in Japan and the United States. This week, the Japanese footwear brand showed off a new pack celebrating this relationship, decorating the GLIII with NYC and Tokyo’s subway maps.

ASICS has been on a tear of exciting GEL-Lyte releases since the III’s anniversary celebration last year brought us a newly remastered version of the vintage runner. This week, Asics has teamed up with fellow Japanese brand atmos and the US’s First Down for a special project, highlighting New York City and Tokyo through their shared intricate subway systems. The two pairs very similar looks because of their shared printed uppers, but actually differ greatly in the colors presented, due to the urbanization of each. The NYC pair features a wealth of blue patches, attributed to the bodies of water surrounding Manhattan, while the Tokyo pair is largely white, reflecting the dense urban population of the city. In addition to the footwear, First Down has printed some of their puffer jackets in matching prints.

Showing off both pairs in full, each one sports a subway map from either Tokyo or New York, cut up and reshaped to create the GLIII overlays.
