adidas’ history of ‘Terrace Trainers’ comprises the bulk of their archives, and this year they appear to be pulling the iconic Handball silhouette to the front lines, dressing the shoe in new colors like this “Tiffany” edition, coming soon.

The adidas Spezial line was not originally intended as a wide ranging franchise of silhouettes. In 1979, the first Spezial shoe was released in Germany, intended specifically as a handball performance shoe. As its popularity grew, the Three Stripes pumped out more and more simple trainers over the next few decades. When the Spezial line was formally established, the goal was to deliver iconic silhouettes reminiscent of ’70s and ’80s court sneakers with a revised athleisure purpose. With the success of the Samba in recent years, adidas appears to be trying to shine that same spotlight on the OG Handball, which has surfaced in a ton of new styles so far in 2024, with more like this “Tiffany” pair on the way. The new look pits the low-top trainer in a core black suede upper, on top of a gum sole. The stripes and heel tabs are added in a bright “Celar Mint” shade to round out the look.
