HAL Studios is teaming up with Asics again in 2024, working on a brand-new silhouette. The model combines several fan-favorite GEL family models with a new velcro strap closure system.
Australian boutique HAL Studios and Asics had a big year in 2023, releasing two highly sought-after pairs of their collaborative GEL-1130. Their projects together date back to 2015, with a special release of the GEL-Lyte III. It wasn’t until 2022 that they reunited, for their first 1130. Now, the two have a new project in the works for 2024, featuring a brand-new silhouette. As shared by the boutique’s creative director, John Bouquet, this new model could be either a HAL signature or just a new offering from Asics, with the retailer getting first dibs on a collaboration. The new silhouette appears to be a mashup, pairing the upper from the 1130 with the midsole from the NYC. The standard lacing system has been removed and replaced with three velcro straps that crisscross the midfoot of the shoe. Three colorways of the prototype can be seen here, one in black and white, the other in grey and tan, and a triple black pair hidden underneath.

HAL Studios next collaboration with Asics has not been announced for release, though the new silhouette will likely arrive sometime in 2024. Mashing up the 1130 and the NYC with a strap lacing system, the versions seen here are just prototypes, but are likely a solid base for any actual releases we see in the near future.
