Ralph Lauren is sticking with his dad shoes. At his most recent show, held in his private design studio, businessman Ralph Lauren wore a pair of gray New Balance sneakers.
This isn’t the first time the designer has worn the sneakers. Last year, Lauren dressed first lady Dr. Jill Biden for a State Dinner. When he attended that event, he wore the same gray sneakers with a formal tuxedo which pulled a lot of attention. Celebrities like Kaia Gerber have alsobeen spotted in the style.
Lauren’s latest show was for his fall and holiday 2024 collection. Supermodel Christy Turlington opened the show which continued the ongoing Western boots trend. Celebrities like Jessica Chastain, Kerry Washington, Glenn Close and Hannah Einbinder all attended the show,
About the shoe
The designer’s shoe was the New Balance 990v5. The style comes from the company’s popular Made in America line. It is the fifth iteration of the 990 which was first released in 1982 — v5 was released in 2019.
The 990v5 features a rubber sole and an upper made of pig suede, mesh and leather. The dual-density foam collar adds to the shoe’s comfort. Lauren’s Polo Ralph Lauren label once collaborated with New Balance on a style to celebrate the U.S. Open.

Lauren is quite a fan of sneakers and boots for his own personal style. He’s often been spotted in attention-demanding sneakers in the past, closing his shows as well as on the sidewalk. In 2022, the designer wore a pair of Air Jordan 14 “Black Toe” sneakers to close his fall 2022 show. Those shoes were first released in 1998. He also has worn neon Saloman sneakers and the rare Nike Air Baskin.
