About Platform Shoes

The platform-soled, buckle-strapped shoe made its debut in Marc Jacobs’ fall 2016 fashion show, captivating audiences with its bold design, a favorite among celebrities like Lady Gaga and Kendall Jenner. Since then, the style has garnered a devoted following, returning in various colorways and heights throughout the 2020s.

The origin of platform shoes can be traced back to Salvatore Ferragamo’s rainbow cork platform sandal from the 1930s, famously crafted for Hollywood icon Judy Garland in 1938. These elevated soles, made from authentic wood, marked the first appearance of platform footwear in Western fashion.

While platforms gained popularity in the late 1960s with the rise of disco culture, they truly became a fashion staple in the 1970s. From sandals to pumps to oxfords, platform shoes were embraced by both men and women, epitomizing the era’s bold and extravagant style. Even today, platform shoes remain synonymous with glamour and revelry, making them a perennial favorite for partygoers worldwide.
