In 2021, Pharrell and adidas finally returned to the silhouette that started their collaborative relationship; the NMD. Now, the Virginia Beach artist is helping to debut the NMD_S1, giving it his own spin with the Hu RYAT version, coming next year.
adidas Originals upcoming NMD_S1 has yet to make its official debut, and is already one of the most interesting silhouettes in the Nomad family since their launch in 2015. Featuring a fully sock-like knit upper mounted on top of a super-thick insole, the S1 gives the appearance of a performance sports car. Now, the Three Stripes are handing the reigns over to Pharrell, giving Skateboard P the chance to run wild with the silhouette, which, of course, he did. Titled the Hu NMD S1 RYAT for this release, Pharrell and team have transformed the S1 into a high-cut boot, reconstructing the upper out of a durable nylon base layer and adding rough suede overlays. The seam between the upper and midsole has also been reinforced, adding a thick layer of taping around the perimeter for added water repellency. Humanrace branding appears on both tongues, while blue, yellow, and green accents add flashes of color all around.

Pharrell’s next addition to his expansive adidas catalog, the Hu NMD S1 RYAT, has not yet been announced for release, and is expected to debut sometime in 2022. The high-top, boot-like version of the new NMD S1 will likely be available from both adidas and select retailers, with a price tag likely in the $150+ range.
