New Balance has released a number of 990v2 colorways so far this year, likely in response to fans’ renewed interest in the 99x family in recent years. This week, we have an early look at a new multicolor iteration of the vintage runner, coming soon.

The New Balance 990v2 was quite an interesting sneaker when it first released in 1998. While the shoe was obviously a follow-up on the beloved 990, its predecessor had launched a full sixteen years prior, making the 990 a seemingly odd choice given the pace at which footwear technology moves. However, the 990v2 hit the streets in a full sprint, thanks to its new tech and design elements, quickly become runners’ go-to New Balance shoes of choice. Now, the 990v2 is receiving a second wind, having arrived back in New Balance’s lifestyle offerings for a run of retro-inspired looks over the past two years. This week, we’re looking at a wild new styling set to drop in the coming weeks, adding a wealth of colors to the v2’s unique upper. The look begins with a flat grey mesh base layer, before adding a rustic brown suede overlay to the shoe’s quarter sections. The mudguard comes in a dusty coyote tan, while a forest green heel counter rounds out the main blocking, while maroon, gold, and blue hints complete the look.
