It’s been a while since we’ve seen a footwear collaboration from COMME des GARÇONS’s SHIRT, so this week’s preview of an upcoming project is extra special. Check out the CDG x Asics Gel-Lyte III, dropping this Fall.
The last time Rei Kawakubo’s CDG SHIRT released a collaborative footwear project, the sub-label of COMME des GARÇONS was working with Supreme and Vans several years ago. Since then, SHIRT has been a free agent while other CDG spin-offs like BLACK and Homme Plus continue to work closely with brands like Nike. This model of sub-brands under the larger COMME banner allows Kawakubo to work with a variety of partners, bringing new ones into the fold when other collaborations end their run. This year, CDG SHIRT will begin work with a new big name footwear brand, Japanese running label Asics. As their first release, the two have cooked up a multicolored camouflage print that decorates the underlays of the classic Gel-Lyte III. The shoe was only previewed during a COMME des GARÇONS fashion show in Paris last week, and is not anticipated to release for at least a few months.

The colorful new Asics Gel-Lyte III from COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT was debuted at the label’s fashion show in Paris last week, and is not expected to release until Fall or Winter of this year, if at all. Expect the colorful take on the famous Japanese runner to rise well above the usual price point, and release via a select few CDG retailers. UPDATE 9.16.20: COMME des GARÇONS SHIRT’s colorful new take on the Asics GEL-Lyte III quietly launches today, September 16th, releasing from select CDG retailers like Le Labo Store in France and LVR in Italy. The special-edition GLIII comes with a price tag of approximately $285, releasing in extremely limited numbers.
