Aimé Leon Dore kicked off the hype for New Balance’s 550 back in 2020, spurring the massive wave of releases and collaborations we’ve seen in the past two years. Now, ALD has more colors in the works, starting off with this ‘Light Grey’ suede pair.

New Balance’s immensely popular 550 started off its reign over the sneaker world through a collaboration with Aimé Leon Dore, the NYC-based menswear label helmed by Teddy Santis. Now moonlighting as the creative director for NB’s Made in USA division, the two have continued to ramp up their releases, dropping several more colorways of the 550 along the way. This week, a new edition of the ALD 550 surfaced, showing a new shaggy suede construction for the retro basketball silhouette, indicating another batch of styles will likely release before the year is through. The pair seen here builds the shoe out of a rugged ‘Light Grey’ suede, with matching nylon underlays around the heel and an off-white leather toe box to match the shoe’s aged midsole. Cracked leather makes up the New Balance ‘N’ logos to complete the new look.
