The adidas Terrex Free Hiker first debuted last summer, igniting a renewed interest in the brand’s outdoor division. This month, the Free Hiker returns as a part of the Primeblue collection, now featuring a textile upper made from Parley’s recycled ocean waste.

The adidas Terrex line has usually taken a backseat to the vastly popular Originals line, as the more outdoor-specific gear was better suited to avid adventurers and hardcore fans of the Three Stripes. However, recent years have seen a revival in appreciation of the outdoors, partially due to most people being stuck inside for most of 2020. Now, as the adidas Free Hiker continues to sell out, the Three Stripes have introduced a new variation of the high-top hiker, rebuilding the popular silhouette with the brand’s beloved recycled ocean plastic textiles. Titled Primeblue, this material was first introduced in collaboration with Parley in 2016, and has since become an essential piece of adidas’ offerings and sustainability initiatives.
