Sustainable Sandal Brand Amanu Expands Into Luxury Accessories

Luxury shoe brand Amanu is in growth mode. On Tuesday, the sustainable company announced that it is expanding its offering outside of sandals into luxury accessories. Now, customers will be able to shop belts and handbags.

Like its sandals, Amanu is committed to sustainable fashion and artisan craftsmanship.

Founded by former celebrity stylist Anita Patrickson in April 2018, Amanu was launched to celebrate an ancient craft of sandal-making with the goal to create human connection. The brand has since expanded exponentially. Patrickson has opened a flagship studio in Los Angeles, along with outposts at the Esperanza Resort in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, and at Singita lodges in Africa, in addition to Amanu’s own direct-to-consumer site offering its bespoke sandal designs.

Now, the new accessory line, which is available for pre-order, debuts with three handbag styles offered in a series of fabrics and colors. The collection includes The Kenya Clutch, The Zambia Pouch, and The Madagascar Top Handle Bag — ranging from $550 to $1,295.

Additionally, the brand has introduced The Grumeti Leather Belt and The Rwenzori Double Wrap Belt, priced between $195 and $295. All pieces feature Amanu’s unique hardware, made by artisans in Kenya.

“Expanding into belts and bags is a natural progression,” Patrickson said in a statement. “It allows us to offer our clients more ways to express their unique style while adhering to our core values of sustainability and craftsmanship. Belts and bags have been the two categories our clients have been asking for since inception.”

Amanu pieces can also be found at Net-a-Porter, GOOP, Shopbop, Moda Operandi and additional specialty stores.
