The Best Shoes at the Golden Globes — From Taylor Swift’s Louboutins to Ayo Edebiri’s Prada Pumps

The anticipation was high for Hollywood’s return to the red carpet at the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday night. Not only did the awards show officially kick off the year’s awards season, it also broke the dam, so to speak, on a drought of red carpet fashion and celebrity style during the industry’s writers’ and actors’ strikes last summer and fall.

But the evening not only opened the floodgates on celebrity red carpet fashion. It also brought a few sartorial changes for the new year, both in evening wear and footwear.

A shift in hemlines was noticeable. While there were still plenty of sweeping, floor length gowns, a significant number of actresses opted instead for the vintage tea-length hemline. The upwards move was a boon for shoe fans, as put more footwear on view.

On foot, satin pumps were the big winners, and they were part of a trend to match your shoes with your dress (all of the evening’s red dresses came with red shoes). Selena Gomez wore a pair of red satin pumps with her Armani Privé gown, as did Globe winner Ayo Edebiri, matching satin pumps with her Prada silk and chiffon column gown with a train. Rachel Brosnahan also did the red dress trend, pairing a stunning Sergio Rossi gown with Christian Louboutin‘s red peep-toe sandals. (The footwear designer was a clear winner for the evening, and even showed up on the red carpet himself.)

Taylor Swift opted for green instead of the evening’s red, but still tapped into the matchy-matchy look. The music artist had a complete color match with a pair of metallic green Christian Louboutin pumps and a custom sequined Gucci cutout dress.

Perhaps the best example of the tea-length hemline trend and matching footwear came from Brie Larson. The actress stepped out on the carpet in a lavender Prada gown with a sweetheart neckline and perfectly A-line-shaped skirt, with grey-lavender pumps to match. The look certainly showcases the influence of Prada, both in the general fashion landscape but also now clearly on the celebrity red carpet. Directly or indirectly, we have Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons to thank for the evening’s rising hemlines — and pointy-toed pumps.
