The ’90s are making a comeback in a “big” way.
For what would have been The Notorious B.I.G.’s 44th birthday, Sean “Diddy/Puff Daddy” Combs has announced a “One Night Only” Bad Boy Family Reunion concert in tribute of the late rapper. The concert will take place for one-night only at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., with performances from Combs, Jay Z, Mary J. Blige and Bad Boys Entertainment’s Faith Evans, Lil Kim, Mase, French Montana, Total, 112 and Mario Winans.
“This is not just a concert. This is not just a tour. This is HIP HOP & R&B HISTORY!!! And I want all of you to come experience every hit that Bad Boy has ever made live on stage! One night only and we are starting at the Barclays,” Combs said on Instagram.
Earlier in the week, Evans, Biggie’s widow, made reference to developing a Notorious B.I.G. hologram that could be used for a potential Bad Boy reunion tour. So, could Combs’ Brooklyn tribute concert finally be the day fans have been waiting for?
During Biggie’s prime, the East Coast rapper donned Coogi sweaters, Kangol hats, Versace sunglasses and Clarks Wallabee shoes. He often wore Timberland boots and Air Jordan XIs.
Fans can expect to hear ’90s hits — which Combs describes as “songs that helped define a whole generation of music” — such as “Feel So Good,” “Mo Money Mo Problems,” “Only You,” “Hypnotize” and “It’s All About The Benjamins.” Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. EST Saturday through livenation.com.
Popular shoes from the decade that the artists could be wearing onstage next month include Nike Air Force 1s, Nike Cortez and Adidas white-on-white Superstars.
Combs brought it back to his Puff Daddy days when he hit the stage at the 2015 BET Awards. He performed in his iconic sweatsuit and Nike Cortez sneakers when he reunited with his Bad Boy Entertainment artists for the label’s 20th anniversary.
The Air Jordan XI, which released in 1995, was another go-to sneaker and can be seen in 112’s “It’s Over Now” music video.
Other sneaker hits included Fila Hill 96, Reebok Question and Nike Air Foamposite One. Tupac Shakur chose Fila Hill 96s for the cover of his “All Eyez on Me” album.
