Still fresh 50 years later.

The Nike Cortez Gets An Old School “Teal/Yellow” Makeover

The Nike Cortez turned 50 last year. Although the low-top design helped the Swoosh in its infancy, the silhouette’s milestone anniversary took a backseat to other celebrations. Over the last 11 months, however, the brand has been remedying the situation, offering the sneaker in handfuls of new color schemes.

As the end of 2023 inches closer, Nike’s Cortez has emerged in a teal and yellow arrangement more fit for Spring 2024 than Winter 2023. Nylon uppers set the stage for suede and leather overlays rooted in performance benefits. Fabric lands on the toe, as well as around the lower heel. Profile swooshes and “Nike”-branded panels at the Achilles’ Heel deviate in material and color scheme, opting for an eye-catching yellow. The combination of tones harkens back to older eras, abandoning the muted and tonal ensembles that’ve dominated the sneaker’s modern roster. Exposed foam tongues keep things simple, as does the midsole. A strip of yellow-colored foam interrupts the sole unit’s uniform finish, further expanding the Forrest Gump-approved shoe’s design.

Enjoy official photos of the pair ahead as you wait for firm nike.com launch details. Nike Running’s classic Cortez is priced at $90 USD.
