The Samba has taken over adidas’ seasonal releases, bringing tons of fresh colors of the retro trainer every few months. For Summer 2024, the brand is reviving the model’s classic long tongue, with mesh base layers for a breathable Summer fit.

adidas’ Samba has evolved greatly over the years since its introduction in 1949. The low-top model was originally built as a soccer shoe, intended to provide better grip on tough, icy surfaces. The model was introduced just ahead of the 1950 FIFA world cup in Brazil, and was named after the country’s main musical export. At the time, the shoe came with an extra long tongue, which could be folded over to protect the laces from untying, or removed completely based on preference. This year, adidas is bringing back the long tongue feature, releasing new colors of the shoe complete with a breathable mesh base layer for Summer. Coming in June, one of the first colors comes in a bright “Blue Burst” shade, which covers the mesh and suede layers. White accents appear on the stripes, heels, and tongues, with a hint of muted gold to complete the look.
