The Puffylette shoe lineup is nothing short of star-studded, with plush spins on the timeless Stan Smith and Superstar shoes, along with the wildly popular Samba style — which just received Footwear News’ 2023 Shoe of the Year — and the retro Forum basketball shoe. But don’t be mistaken, the Puffylette shoe is far from a sneaker. Only through aesthetics does it resemble the recognizable shoes, as a detailed, illusion-like print dresses the quilted uppers, all the way down to faux-lacing and toe perforations. Puffylettes don’t sacrifice on adidas’ enduring style appeal, and they equally serve as comfortable indoor slippers or outdoor shoes, which is exactly how Footwear News’ Director of Commerce Adam Mansuroglu wore them throughout a three-week testing period.
“I purchased the Puffylette Forum Shoes just in time for the cold weather season. I’ve worn them to the grocery store, at my parents’ home for Thanksgiving, and on 90 percent of early-morning walks with my dog, Cooper,” he says. He likens their function to the winter version of adidas’ Adilette Clogs. The narrow collar offers a far more secure fit in comparison, though this may mean that putting them on won’t be quite as effortless as a recovery slide or slip-on sneaker. “Walking my dog isn’t always the most enjoyable task (he seems to have forgotten all of his leash training),” he says. “If these slippers were more flimsy or the fit was less secure, there’s no doubt in my mind that they would fly off my feet while my dog tugs me around my neighborhood. Would I go for a jog in Puffylettes? No, but I now know I can wear them on brisk walks or sprinting across the street without worry of losing a slipper.”

“When you actually get the Puffylette shoes on your feet, these outdoor slippers can look like your typical chunky sneaker if you wear them with baggy jeans or wide-leg sweat pants,” says Mansuroglu. “You get the coziness and the style appeal, all in one great pair of adidas shoes.”
Aside from their inflated upper, Puffylettes are ultra-cushioned with EVA foam in both the midsole and outsole for a cloud-like ride. Mansuroglu notes just one drawback to these hybrid shoes — they lack substantial arch support, despite what the appearance of the outsole may suggest. But, if you have toes that run cold, we deem them winter weather essentials. “The first thing you’ll notice when wearing these Puffylette shoes is that they feel like little sleeping bags for your feet,” Mansuroglu explains.
They could even go on to replace casual winter boots, considering their traction and toasty lining. You likely wouldn’t want to trek through wet terrain in your crisp-white adidas sneakers anyway, so consider these a universal swap for last year’s rotation of summer clogs, men’s and women’s slippers, and style steppers in one.
