Ugg Collaborates With Gallery Dept. on Whimsical Collection

Ugg has tapped Gallery Dept. to create an artistic iteration of two of its classic silhouettes.

After years of painting in his studio, Gallery Dept. founder Josué Thomas has unintentionally customized a pair of Ugg Classic Boots with paint splatters and other decorative materials. The look of the set was the driving force that inspired the unisex apparel brand’s latest collaboration with Ugg.

The Southern California-based footwear brand worked with Gallery Dept. on a colorful reiteration of the Classic Boot and Tasman Slipper. Both silhouettes were released in two colorways, chestnut suede and black leather. The upper was made from Twinface sheepskin sourced from regenerative agriculture farms. Each style is embellished with jewels and studs as well as a one-of-a-kind paint splatter design. The chestnut Tasman slipper differentiates itself from the line with an off-white fringe trimming around the collar.

As a previous customer of the footwear brand, Thomas spoke about his appreciation for the functionality of the sets. “I love working in them, and I love that you can live life in them as well,” Thomas said, “You can always tell what I’ve been doing by looking at my feet.”

This collection is the latest addition to Ugg’s impressive lineup of collaborations. In the past, top brands, like Opening Ceremony and Bape, have reimagined other classic silhouettes including the Wallabee boot.

Before the announcement of this collection, the footwear brand released the Reimagined collection. Ugg updated the Tasman and Classic Ultra Mini boot with a trendy patchwork design made from leftover suede, leather and sheepskin that was tossed aside.

The Ugg x Gallery Dept. collection will be released on Feb. 23 on both of the brand’s websites and in select retailers nationwide. The reimagined Tasman will be retail for $395 while the Classic Boot will be $495.
