Philadelphia-based boutique and label Lapstone & Hammer is bringing a hand-dyed treatment to two Asics models on an extremely limited basis.
Taking inspiration from denim, Lapstone and Hammer has dip-dyed the Gel-NYC and Gel-1130. No two pairs are alike because of the nature of the handmade process, which was handled in Philadelphia by Lapstone & Hammer itself, making each faded “Indigo” look as unique as a pair of jeans that you’ve worn in yourself. In total, just 100 pairs will release across the two models.
“We chose the Gel-NYC and Gel-1130 silhouettes for this project with the thinking that their abundance of mesh and suede materials would soak up the dye really well — and we were right,” Lapstone & Hammer said in a blog post announcing the collaboration. “The layered construction of both models’ uppers, along with the metallic silver and suede overlays, really make the indigo pop.”
To complement the Asics sneakers, Lapstone & Hammer has also partnered with Standard Issue for an additional capsule of apparel with “Deep Indigo” and “Stonewashed Indigo” treatments on T-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, and cardigans.
Standard Issue founder Jimmy Gorecki is also from Philadelphia, and to continue the city theme Lapstone & Hammer chose 76ers guard Patrick Beverley and his podcast co-host Adam “Rone” Ferrone to star in the campaign for the collection.
The Lapstone & Hammer x Asics Gel-NYC and Gel-1130 will release Saturday, Feb. 3, through the boutique’s website and physical store. Pricing is set at $180 for the Gel-NYC and $160 for the Gel-1130, and both will get a size run of men’s 7.5 to 13.
