Futura‘s relationship with the Nike SB Dunk Low is almost as old as the sneaker itself.
The graffiti artist and streetwear fixture first collaborated on the silhouette in 2003, just a year after Nike introduced a new version of the ’80s basketball sneaker retooled for skateboarding. A number of additional Dunk collaborators have followed — both from Nike and Nike SB, on the high-top and low-top and in joint-efforts with Stash and Virgil Abloh — and now Futura has confirmed he has two new versions of the SB Dunk Low slated to arrive in May.
A photo posted by Futura to Instagram Thursday shows two colorways of a new Futura Laboratories x Nike SB Dunk Low. Both versions of the sneaker are constructed out of suede and feature his artwork, with slight approaches and different color palettes separating the two.
The blue Dunk features Futura’s artwork on the overlays, while the underlays are white and the insole rendered in a solid blue. The Red Dunk is more maximalist with underlays continuing the artwork on the vamp, utilizing a yellow gradient on the quarter and appearing in a deep blue on the collar. The artwork print also appears on the insole, while its yellow tongue also stands apart from the other’s white. Fixtures of both sneakers include the sock liner branding, lateral heel Futura signature, medial heel FL mark and hand-written text on the tongue tag.
Although no further release details have been confirmed, it’s very well possible that the blue version, which first leaked late in 2023, will be the only one to go on sale, while the red version just revealed Thursday is a friends-and-family exclusive.
