Born x Raised’s Nike SB Dunk Gets a September Release Date

Born x Raised‘s highly anticipated Nike SB Dunk Low, the brand’s first collaboration with the Swoosh, now has a confirmed release date. The Los Angeles-based streetwear label announced on Instagram that the sneaker will release Sept. 28. A July launch had originally been set, but the SB Dunk was postponed following the death of Born x Raised founder Chris “Spanto” Printup.

As is to be expected from Born x Raised, the SB Dunk is rich with details representing Los Angeles and the neighborhood of Venice, beginning with a blue and white color scheme invoking the L.A. Dodgers. A special “Born SB” logo using the brand’s signature Old English font popular in Chicano culture appears on the insole, which also features an out of focus shot of Venice Beach, as well as the tongue tag and beneath the translucent, blue outsole. The mark appears again on a holographic mustache, which switches back and forth between the original and remixed logos and matches the iridescent Swoosh.

“One Block at a Time” is stitched in cursive on both the toe tip and tongue patch, while “On the Turf.” appears on the interior of the tongue and as a raised block on the midsoles heel. The vamp’s perforations have been replaced with a custom floral pattern, and pink embroidery on the lateral’s rear is a likely nod to Printup’s Native American heritage. Laces printed with “In Loving Memory” were originally intended to honor Printup’s late father, but fans of the brand will certainly have the Born x Raised founder in mind when reading it now.

Born x Raised’s Nike SB Dunk will release Sept. 28, and Kicks Finder has reported the brand will have the exclusive after plans to include U.S. skate shops were cancelled. An in-person raffle will be held from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at 1010 South Santa Fe Ave. Winners will then be notified by Sept. 27. Born x Raised will then host a release through its website at 3 p.m. EST Sept. 28. Nike has yet to confirm any release of its own. Retail is set at $130.
