Bode’s Nike Astrograbber Will Release in Mid-April

In February, Nike brought back for the first time the Field General, a relatively obscure sneaker model from the ’80s designed for football. Bode has now confirmed it’s collaborating with Nike on an even older shoe made for the gridiron, as the in-demand New York City label announces its take on the Astrograbber will release this spring.

Dating back the ’70s, the Astrograbber is an early Nike model and one of several to be given co-founder Bill Bowerman’s legendary Waffle soles. While many shoes from that era still live on, such as the Cortez and Blazer, the Astrograbber has largely been lost to history. It’s revival now comes as part of a micro-trend of retro football models, as well as a much bigger push from Nike for all things retro.

Although Bode’s to version differ in materials, both hew closely to the model’s original construction. A cream version features a crochet-like upper as part of a largely monochromatic arrangement. A black Swoosh and Bode branding on the tongue break up the otherwise continuous look, while a Bode-branded insole takes on a deep blue. The true flair comes in the form of colorful lace charms including a lobster, airplane, and what looks to be a dog.

The black version renders its upper in leather while boasting cream branding. Instead of the more abundant assortment of charms as its sister shoe, this pair features a single silver baseball and gold football across the two sneakers.

Rumors of Bode’s debut Nike collaboration have been circulating since last year, and the label first revealed a look at the sneaker with a black leather version in its fall-winter 2024 lookbook that released in January. In March, the brand put words to the shoe for the first time, confirming its off-white Astrograbber will release this spring while pointing its audience to sign up for its newsletter for additional information. Finally, on Friday, Bode announced the release date for the sneakers in post featuring a paparazzi shot of Kaia Gerber wearing the Astrograbber in black.

The Bode x Nike Astrograbber will release April 18 through its website. The boutique Antonioli, from which the product images come from, previously announced it’ll release the sneakers as well on May 1 — and there’s a good chance other third-party retailers, as well as Nike, will join the same day. Pricing is set at $170.
