Wild, Wild West indeed. Decorative embroidery and straight-shooter shapes modernize the classic women’s cowboy boot this season. Paired with rollicking westerly looks, the trend takes a new direction for spring ’16.
High-end fashion brands took on the ever-lasting trend and infused it with unexpected fashion twists. Coach lead the way with its patchwork ankle boots, shown at its spring ’16 runway show. Fausto Puglisi also offered a radical take on the cowboy boot, doing it in a satin embellished with crystals.
Brands like Tod’s, Bally and Altuzarra offered reworked takes on Western ready-to-wear, like cowhide coats and beaded dresses. Valentino collaborated with Métis artist Christi Belcourt on its resort collection, proving that inspiration from First Nations cultures doesn’t have to be done insensitively.
Classic Western brands also updated their trustee styles with new treatments. Lane used floral embroidery, a technique that’s also been seen on a bevy of luxury styles. Brands like Durango and Nocono went more minimal, with simple suede boots in rich tan colorways.
Ankle shapes were also prevalent. Brands like Roots, Toga Pull and Frye opted for shorter heights that felt fresh, adding details like monk straps or extra buckles.
