Winnie Harlow Laces into Ballerina Stilettos at Matty Bovan’s London Fashion Week Show

Winnie Harlow returned to the runway with a dynamic approach to ballerina style.

On Saturday, Harlow strutted through St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London while walking in Matty Bovan’s spring 2024 show during London Fashion Week. For the occasion, the “America’s Next Top Model” star wore a pair of tonal pink satin pointed-toe pumps, complete with closed counters and wide flat bows for added formality. Bringing the pair a slick finish, however, were their thin stiletto heels and rosy pink silk ribbon straps that crossed over the fronts of Harlow’s legs — much like traditional ballet slippers.

The style added a slick, faintly romantic finish to Harlow’s runway attire: a tufted and ruffled minidress crafted with mixed pieces of metallic pink, blue, sheer black and multicolored tulle. The dynamic attire was layered over dark pink tights for a true ballerina edge, with was contrasted with shimmering violet eyeshadow for a punky flair.

Harlow’s ballerina heels were a dynamic new take on the current ballet flat trend, which has seen varieties of the slip-on in numerous colors, textures and embellishments — as continuously evidenced during New York Fashion Week. Bovan’s runway iteration, fully embracing “balletcore” — the TikTok aesthetic focusing on the wardrobe staples of ballerinas on and off-stage — added to the ballet wave with a slick new shape, while still highlighting its signature feminine details like bows and silky straps.

LFW is held in London in September, marking the second week of Fashion Month. The spring 2024 season will see a calendar of fashion shows and presentations from a range of brands, including Burberry, Simone Rocha, Erdem and more. The occasion will also include numerous parties and activations from brands like Valentino, Wolf & Badger and “Wonderland” magazine — as well as the star-studded Vogue World: London event, which celebrates fashion’s international community with a current-season runway show.
