About the shoe

Anderson’s Mary Janes feature a classic strap up the foot that attaches to the ankle strap, creating the appropriately named T. The design provides additional security for the style, which is held in place by a small buckle. The black leather shoes are also inflated with a chunky platform and block heel.

The platform provides additional height while also providing additional stability and comfort than other versions of heels would afford.

Mary Jane Shoes: For the Prim and Proper

Mary Janes are classic shoes, going back to the 16th century. They’ve been worn by women and children since before they were dubbed the Mary Jane, notably featuring a rounded toe and a strap across the instep of the foot. They were also once referred to as “doll shoes.” in 1904, Brown Shoes Company named them the Mary Jane, and they have been called that since.

In the 1920s the T-strap Mary Jane became popular. They allowed wearers to show their feet while still wearing something secure for dancing. In the 1990s, the T-strap Mary Jane became popular as a platform style, often worn with sheer black tights.
