Sam and Libby Edelman Reflect on Importance of Family at FN Achievement Awards 2023

After a lifetime of experience and success in the shoe industry, Sam and Libby Edelman are nowhere near slowing down.

Presented by model Kate Upton, the couple took to the stage at the 37th annual FN Achievement Awards on Wednesday night in New York City to accept the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Edelmans have both been in the industry for decades, meeting in 1979 and have been hard at work in the shoe business ever since. While they first made their mark working with other footwear companies, they reached even more success through their two iconic labels, Sam & Libby, and the eponymous Sam Edelman label, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary next year. At the center of all of the success the two have earned has remained one thing through the years: family.

“I’m the luckiest guy in the world because every day, not only do I get to work with 65-70 people that I consider family, that I truly love, but I get to get up in the morning and work with Libby and my son Jesse,” Sam said. “And that’s just an amazing exciting thing for me.”

“This is how life should be lived,” said Libby. “To live every minute and every day with passion, passion for fashion and a true love of shoes. And to our children who are here tonight with us: Jesse, Callie and Max, we’re so proud of you and every day you are a reminder to us of our achievements as parents.”

For 37 years, the annual FN Achievement Awards — often called the “Shoe Oscars” — have celebrated the style stars, best brand stories, ardent philanthropists, emerging talents and industry veterans. The 2023 event is supported by sponsors Authentic Brands Group, Birdies, Caleres, Crocs, FDRA, Nordstrom, Saucony and Vibram.
