Vivienne Westwood’s eccentric style has permeated nearly every corner of the fashion world- even sneakers. This week, a new installment between the fashion house and Asics has surfaced, transforming the GEL-Kayano 27 into a statement piece.
The partnership between Britain’s Vivienne Westwood and Japanese running label Asics is barely two years old, and already one of the most intriguing ongoing collaborations in the world of sneakers. The two have already released over half-a-dozen projects in a relatively short span of time, with another two-pack of sneakers announced for next month. Following up on their last release, which featured a shrouded GEL-Kayano 27 as a reference to Westwood latex stockings, the latest project focuses once more on the GEL-Kayano 27, Asics’ current top-of-the-line performance running model. Ditching the mid-cut shroud, the new Vivienne Westwood 27s take on eye-catching color schemes, plenty of the label’s regal branding, and even a nod to the designer’s GEL-Kayano 26 from last year, through the cut mesh that wraps around the forefoot and mid sections of the shoes. This Vivienne Westwood x Asics GEL-Kayano 27 comes in two colorways, one in white with accents in magenta and navy blue, and a second “Lichen Green” based colorway that sports an orange mudguard, blue inner lining, and brown detailing.

The latest project from British fashion brand Vivienne Westwood and Japan’s Asics, featuring the GEL-Kayano 27, has been scheduled to debut next month, on May 1st, 2021. Launching in two colorways, white and “Lichen Green”, both pairs will be available from the partner’s websites as well as select retailers for $220.
