The Nike Air Kukini may be one of the brand’s weirdest silhouette’s they’ve ever released. Poised for a retro release in 2022, this week the Air Kukini in cream & grey joins the brand’s Summer release schedule.

On New Years Day in 1999, Nike introduced the Alpha Project, a new series of shoes focused on identifying and solving performance problems in their products. The Alpha line produced a number of out-of-the-box silhouettes that remain popular to this day, like the Air Presto, as well as some lesser known models, like the Air Kukini, which is set to return in retro form this year. Featuring a form-fitting neoprene upper secured by a plastic TPU cage, the Kukini was a rare exercise in laceless sneaker several decades before they were even trendy. Now, the Swoosh is reviving the unique silhouette with a wave of new colorways for 2022. This week, the simplest new look yet emerged online, showing off a basic cream & grey color combo for the vintage runner. The neoprene body of the Kukini comes in off-white, while the toe, tongue, and heel overlays are added in a steel grey leather. The signature web-like cage completes the Nike Air Kukini Cream with a semi-translucent white.
