Converse’s Weapon silhouette was one of the most popular basketball shoes when it debuted in the ’80s. Now, Converse is bringing the vintage model into the modern day as the new Weapon CX, available now.

The Converse Weapon first appeared on the basketball court in 1986, around the same time as another well-known basketball silhouette made its debut. At the time, the Weapon was an immediate favorite amongst NBA players, the sneaker was adopted by nearly every major player in the league at some point in the ’80s, even contributing to the long-standing, legendary rivalry between the Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics. While the Weapon would continue to dominate the NBA court for several years, it slowly faded from the spotlight as Converse continued to advance their footwear. However, this week, the Massachusetts brand unveiled the Weapon CX, a modern-day interpretation of the Weapon complete with new court-ready features like foam midsoles. The new look takes many of its design cues from the original, as well as adding some new supportive paneling and restructuring the midsole to add more heft and stability.
