Asics’ recent use of recycled materials and a new solution-based dyeing process have been put to use at scale this month, to help build the brand’s massive new “Earth Day” collection of sneakers highlighted by the new Tarther Blast silhouette.

Earth Day is taking on a new meaning for the sneaker world this year, as the introduction of dozens of new sustainable and environmentally-friendly technologies and materials have been introduced by nearly every footwear brand under the sun in the past year. Among these new developments is Asics’ use of recycled materials in its shoes, cutting back on waste in the production line, as well as a new solution-based dyeing process to reduce water usage in the process. This month, the Japanese running brand unveiled a large lineup of sustainable footwear, made using these new practices, in celebration of Earth Day. The collection includes a wide range of Asics styles, from several running shoes to the brand’s new line of sportstyle models. The highlight of the project is the new Tarther Blast, a hybrid silhouette merging the vintage Tarther upper with a new FLyteFoam midsole for maximum comfort. Asics’ “Earth Day” Tarther Blast begins with a white mesh base layer before adding the brand’s vector logo in tan on either side, along with brown suede heel counters and lacing systems, a color scheme that carries over to the rest of the collection.
