The rumors are true. Earlier this week, Asics announced that their collaborative partner Kiko Kostadinov would be joining their creative ranks, debuting his new position with the UB1-S GEL-Kayano 14, his version of the classic running shoe.
Kiko Kostadinov’s collaborations with Asics have propelled the Japanese brand’s SportStyle division to new heights in the few short seasons they’ve been working together. Not only has the Bulgarian designer’s shoe’s taken over the sneaker world, but they have inspired the rest of Asics’ in-house design team, building on their established design language with Kiko’s bold embellishments. Now, the two have been so successful working together, they are extending their partnership even longer, as well as Asics appointing Kostadinov to one of their creative direction positions, allowing him to further influence their sneaker arsenal. The first project with his signature touch was announced alongside the new partnership, showing off a ‘freaked’ iteration of an old school GEL model, now known as the UB1-S GEL-Kayano 14
ASICS UB1-S GEL-KAYANO 14 RELEASE INFORMATION
The first release from Asics with Kiko Kostadinov at the creative helm, the UB1-S GEL-Kayano 14, has not yet been officially announced for release, though they are slated to hit retail shelves sometime in November of this year. While very little information is currently available, we expect this special-edition model to release form both Asics and select retailers, likely with a price tag above the $140 mark. Update 11/6/20: Asics has announced the official release date of the UB1-S GEL Kayano 14, dropping later this month on November 27th, 2020 for a retail price of $160. Along with this announcement, another colorway of the reworked retro runner has surfaced, this time in an eye-catching combination of orange and purple.
Update 12/1/20: After some odd delays and a false release, the sics UB1-S GEL-Kayano 14 has officially been rescheduled for a drop on December 4th, 2020. The refreshed style will be available directly from Asics.com, with a price tag of $160.
