Asics’ classic GEL-Lyte III runner saw a lot of love from the brand in 2020 for its 30th anniversary. Lucky for us, that hot streak continues into 2021, as evidenced by the new special-edition “Boro Patchwork” colorway iteration of the vintage runner, available now.

Still fresh off of its 30-year-anniversary in 2020, the Asics GEL-Lyte III has been the focus of an unprecedented run of releases from the Japanese running brand, reworking the GLIII in dozens of colorways, both new and old as well as limited-edition collaborations and standard in-line colorways. This week, the brand is taking some more inspiration from Japanese craftsmanship, specifically boro patchwork, applying the technique to the latest colorway of the GEL-Lyte III. The upper for this pair is split down the midline of the shoe, with the lateral sides constructed from a cream-colored suede with jagged stitching accents, while the medial sides feature a number of colors and materials cobbled together from waste materials pulled from a recent GEL-Quantum 360 and Metaride release.

ASICS GEL-LYTE III “BORO PATCHWORK” RELEASE INFORMATION

Asics’ latest special-edition pair of the GEL-Lyte III released quietly earlier this week from the brand’s website, where they are still available in a small variety of sizes. The “Boro Patchwork” colorway comes with a price tag of approximately $170 given the complex construction and materials.
