Asics’ GEL series has been their most popular since it originated in the ’90s, quickly becoming the go-to tech for both running and lifestyle shoes. This year, Asics is feeling nostalgic, mixing up the current GEL-Lyte XXX with colorways from the OG GL3.

The Asics GEL-Lyte XXX is the Japanese brand’s latest in a long line of performance running sneakers, building upon years of dominance in the space. Since the GEL-Lyte series debuted in the early ’90s, plenty has changed about the shoes, swapping out older, outdated technologies for newer, lighter ones, like the brand’s FlyteFoam Lyte midsole that replaces the original full-length GEL cushioning. The upper also received a serious facelift, swapping out the usual mesh and suede overlays for tougher, more durable ripstop nylon with taped seams and leather accents. The GEL-Lyte XXX does features a tongue, which is also constructed from a lightweight translucent material to reduce the shoe’s weight. The latest colorways of Asics’ GLXXX hit shelves earlier this week, and might be familiar to long-time Asics fans. Inspired by the GEL-Lyte III’s “Citrus” and “Coral” color schemes, these two are modern-day interpretations of the two, with one mixing forest green with neon yellow, and the second featuring coral pink on a white backdrop.
